As Hamas has fired rockets into Israel, Israel has bombarded Gaza, Hamas’s home. Last week Israel invaded to destroy Hamas’s missiles and the tunnels that hide and transport them. While Israel has said its strikes were only intended to kill Hamas’s leadership and destroy its missiles, for every militant who has been killed, three Palestinian civilians have died. And while only two Israeli civilians have been killed by Hamas attacks, the death toll in Gaza is now more than 600, including 100 children.

Are Israel’s actions appropriate and necessary self-defense in the face of an enemy that won’t be peaceful, or are they immoral and out of proportion to any threat?
