Amanda Bynes‘s latest DUI arrestcomes at the tail end of a string of erratic behavior.

“It’s very obvious that she is not 100 percent well,” a source who saw Bynes at her Thousand Oaks gym over the summer tells PEOPLE. “She is still obsessed with her body and spends more time in front of the mirror than she actually works out. She doesn’t like when people look at her and has even confronted a few other members.”

A second source adds that she appeared to be unhappy about being under her parents’ court-ordered conservatorship

“Her parents were closely monitoring her, including her driving,” says the source of Bynes, who got her license back in April. “She would have arguments with her dad in the car.”

The conservatorship ended in June, according to her father, Rick Bynes, who told x17 he has not seen his daughter since.

“She’s 28, she does what she wants,” he said. “We don’t know a thing.”

Several Twitter users spotted Bynes leaving John F. Kennedy International Airport and heading back to Los Angeles on Sept. 25.

“Amanda Bynes, with ridiculous purple hair, is at the gate freaking out about her missed flight to LA,” Jason Persse Tweeted. “Get me the hell out of JFK.”

As for Bynes’s current whereabouts, she had been enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, but a source says she hasn’t recently been spotted attending classes.

Representatives for Bynes could not be reached for comment.
Being a parent is a total bait-and-switch. Your kids start out helpless and adorable, gurgling bundles of ceaseless wonder. You are a god in their eyes, powerful and wise beyond knowing.

b1e04eaa31915d5577c19172e972dda920a68187

And then, one day, the transformation happens. They turn into teenagers. Everything you thought you knew about them is wrong. Overnight you became the worst human being on the planet. If only you would just disappear (leaving behind a fully stocked refrigerator and the keys to the car) all their problems would melt away.

Of course, there are some benefits to having teenagers in the house. By the time they’re 13 they’re big enough to help carry groceries from the car (provided you can pry them off the couch). They’re intellectually mature enough to engage you in lively debate (assuming you can persuade them to look up from their phones). And they eventually turn into interesting and even charming adults (or so I am told).

Mostly, though, it’s a struggle. As a parent of teens, you need all the help you can get. Here are seven items you should be sure to pack in your survival kit:

1. Homework helper.Beyond basic algebra, my knowledge of math falters. I’m even more clueless when it comes to science. That’s why I’m grateful for online video services like InstaEDU, which matches high school students with college- and graduate-level tutors from top universities.

(InstaEDU)

Enter the subject where your kid needs help, and InstaEDU displays a list of tutors with expertise in that field. Your teen can view the tutors’ profiles, chat with them to see if they’re sympatico, then find one who’s available to answer her questions right now via a video hookup. The first two hours are free, and it costs 40 cents a minute thereafter.

2. A silent co-pilot.Has your teen driver got too much lead in his Keds? Plug a monitoring device into the car’s on-board diagnostics port (OBD II), and it can record how fast and/or recklessly he’s driving and then send a report to your phone that you can show him the next time he begs for the keys.

Mojio driving monitor

(Moj.io)

Most OBD monitors let you set up geofences, so you can get a text alert when he leaves home and another when he arrives at school, a status update as to your vehicle’s health, and regular snapshots of the car’s location throughout the day.

Some devices, such as Automatic, rely on the GPS in your teen’s smartphone; others, such as Zubie and Mojio (available next month), have the GPS built in. Prices start around $100; some also charge a monthly subscription fee for wireless data.

3. Texting blockers.According to the National Highway Safety Administration, teens arefour times more likely to get into an accident while using their phones to talk or text. Nip that in the bud by installing an app that detects when the car is in motion, locks out the keyboard, and sends an auto-text saying the recipient is driving and will respond later.

The good news is that there are a mess of Android and BlackBerry apps that can do this — like DriveSafe.ly, Drive Safe Mode, orDriveScribe, to name just a few — for prices ranging from free to a few dollars a month. AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon also offer their own free anti-texting apps for Android.

(DriveScribe)

The bad news: There’s currently no iPhone app that will prevent your kids from texting while driving, though a company called TXT Shield is hoping to get one approved by year-end. A recently uncovered Apple patent suggests that this feature might be built into a future version of iOS.

4. A breathalyzer. The next time your high schooler comes home a little wobbly from a party, have her blow into the BACtrack Vio ($50) or the Alcohoot($100) before you launch into a lecture on the dangers of teen drinking. Both devices gauge your teen’s blood alcohol level and send it to an app on your phone. Nothing heads off bald-faced denials like some cold, hard numbers.

(BACtrack)

Just be careful not to give the thing to your teens, lest they decide to use it for a “How high can we blow?” drinking game.

5. A way to do some good. Many high schools require students to log a minimum number of volunteer hours in order to graduate. And you surely wouldn’t mind getting your teenager out of your hair for a few hours each week. Sites like VolunteerMatch connect able-bodied youth with nonprofits that need their help.

(VolunteerMatch)

Your teen gets to pick an area he’s interested in, whether it’s working with animals or in the arts, helping his elders or focusing on environmental issues. Many opportunities are virtual, so teens can do them via the Net.

6. A mobile bodyguard. If something’s amiss with your adolescents besides the usual teen angst, you might want to take a closer look at their phones. They could be the victim of a bully, or bullying someone else. They could be spending all their time watching YouTube videos when they claim to be studying. Or they might be sharing (ahem) candid photos that could come back to bite them later.

Apps like TeenSafe, Mobile Guardian, and uKnowKids Mobile all give you a window into your teenager’s secret mobile life, letting you monitor the texts she sends and receives, the webpages she visits, the apps she downloads, and more. Costs range from $4 to $15 a month.

If you decide to go this route, however, I recommend full disclosure. Don’t be a spy. Telling your kids you’re monitoring them — and relaxing some restrictions after they’ve demonstrated good behavior — is usually the best way to keep them on the straight and narrow.

7. Zombies.Struggling to get your perpetually horizontal teenager from exercising something other than his thumbs? It may be time to deploy a clutch of mindless zombies.

Zombies, Run! 3 screenshot

(ZombiesRunGame)

In the immersive mobile fitness app “Zombies, Run! 3,” your otherwise lethargic teen must keep moving to stay ahead of the staggering hordes, gathering water and other critical supplies in an effort to save what remains of civilization. The farther and faster he runs, the better humanity’s chance for survival. If this $4 download won’t inspire him to get off the couch, he might be a zombie himself.

Today, Microsoft took the wraps off the next version of Windows. You’ll be able to install a free, unfinished “technical preview” version this week, or get it in final form sometime next year. It’s called Windows 10.

(Why is it Windows 10? What happened to 9? Making sense of the Windows naming sequence is like solving one of those Mensa “What’s the pattern?” puzzles. So far, we have this: Windows 1, 2, 3, 95, 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10. OK, whatever.)

Windows 8, as the world now knows, was a superimposed mishmash of two operating systems. There was the touchscreen-friendly TileWorld interface, as I called it. (Microsoft, at various times, called it Modern or Metro; it has officially retired both of those terms and replaced them with nothing.)

And, underneath, there was the regular desktop:

3c585afa28c79c988d8abecbf1be54cf8539b34b

They are quite separate, these two environments. Each has its own Help system, its own Web browser, its own email program, its own control panel, its own conventions and gestures. Worse, each runs its own kind of programs. Regular Windows programs open at the desktop, as always — but TileWorld apps open in TileWorld, with no menus overlapping windows. Like iPad apps.

Microsoft believed at the time (2012) that the world was going touchscreen crazy. That, sooner or later, every PC would have a touchscreen.

Betting on bothIt bet wrong. Most computers still don’t have touchscreens. Windows 8 was a massive flop with critics. “Windows 8 is a failure — an awkward mishmash that pulls the user in two directions at once,” wrote Woody Leonhard in InfoWorld. “A horribly awkward mashup of two fundamentally incompatible approaches that worked poorly on both PCs and tablets,” wrote Galen Gruman.

Windows 8 was a massive flop with consumers, too. Today, 51 percent of desktop PCs still run Windows 7; only 13 percent have “upgraded” to Windows 8 or 8.1, according to Net Applications.

And at the Windows 10 announcement, you would not have believedthe words coming out of Microsoft’s mouth.

“In Windows 8, when users launched a Modern [TileWorld] app, it sort of had a different environment,” OS Group VP Joe Belfiore said in his demo. “We don’t want that duality.”

Now, when I wrote exactly that in The New York Times, Microsoft PR descended on me like the beasts of hell.

The answer has always been screamingly obvious: Split up the two halves of Windows 8. Or, as a wise man once wrote, “Put TileWorld and its universe of new touchscreen apps on tablets. Put Windows 8 on mouse-and-keyboard PCs.” (OK, it was me.)

Anyway, here’s the big news: In Windows 10, Microsoft has done just that.

Mouse-and-keyboard modeIf you use Windows 10 with a mouse and keyboard, the Start menu is back. Not just the Start button, not just the secret Windows key+X utility menu of Windows 8.1 — the real Start menu.

And TileWorld is gone. No more screen of big flat tiles taking over your monitor.

Tiles aren’t gone completely; they still pop out of the regular Start menu, a little weirdly.

 527a9ba9bc7d6ff0f82dfa6fafe8dc76b0ddafde

And what about all those TileWorld apps that could run only in TileWorld? Since TileWorld is gone, these apps now open up on the desktop, in regular windows with regular title bars and window controls. You can still see your desktop, and you can see TileWorld apps and regular Windows programs side by side.

 c72e3451bb0dcb4c8631d6d22a784166ea45dc06

Tablet modeIf you don’t have a mouse and keyboard, then you still get TileWorld — a Start screen and apps that fill the full screen. In fact, Microsoft demonstrated how, if you’re using a Microsoft Surface with the keyboard attached, you get the Start menu and desktop — but if youdetach the keyboard, Windows automatically offers to switch into TileWorld mode, hiding the Start menu and making your apps full screen.

Good!9904b3cfeb3a2cc06f2e8e9986f3660a3a735771

New featuresThere are also some useful new features (new to Windows, anyway). Search results now include listings from the Web as well as from your computer. There’s a new “task view,” modeled on Mac OS X’s Mission Control, which shows you miniatures of all open windows when you click a button on the taskbar.

And you’ll be able to “snap” windows together so they all occupy part of your screen.

 4eb5b465517a91022b1d1f24d8ba4aa240b10f2a

What about Windows Phone? It will resemble Windows 10, although it won’t have the desktop view. Microsoft says that laptops, tablets, and phones will all get their apps from a single, unified app store. (It’s not clear if that means the same apps run on all those platforms; I’d guess not.)

Windows 10 looks as though it will be far more usable and less confusing than Windows 8 and 8.1. It’s too bad the whole tile design is still mixed in there for desktop PCs, but at this point I guess it’s too late for Microsoft to abandon the whole misbegotten tile thing altogether.

But at least mouse-and-keyboard folks won’t sacrifice productivity in the name of the touchscreen revolution that never came, and tablet fans won’t have to work (much) with tiny window controls.

Let us welcome the saner heads that have finally prevailed in Redmond.

The Kansas City Royals led the Major Leagues with 153 stolen bases in 2014, rallying around the mantra “That’s what speed do” as they worked to secure a Wild Card berth. The Oakland A’s started backup catcher Geovany Soto on Tuesday to better suppress the Royals’ running game, but after Soto left the game with a thumb injury, Kansas City ran wild on replacement Derek Norris.

The Royals stole seven bases in their 9-8, 12-inning win over the A’s: One each by Nori Aoki, Lorenzo Cain, Christian Colon, Jarrod Dyson, Alcides Escobar, Alex Gordon and Terrance Gore. Well-timed steals helped key the eighth- and ninth-inning rallies that evened the Royals with the A’s and forced the Wild Card game to extra innings. And Colon came around to score the winning run after stealing second in the bottom of the 12th.

According to baseball-reference.com, the Royals tied a Major League record by stealing seven bases in a postseason game.

The record was first set by the Chicago Cubs in the 1907 World Series, and later tied by the 1975 Cincinnati Reds in an NLCS game.

TIME answers your questions about Ebola in the United States

A renowned infectious disease expert named Michael Osterholm wrote an opinion piece in the New York Times that said airborne Ebola is possible if the virus mutates enough. As TIME reported in the past, anything is possible with viruses, but there are many other mutations that are more likely than a change in the mode of transmission—meaning how you catch it. For instance, a virus could become more virulent—more contagious—or could develop incubation periods that are longer than the current estimate of 21 days. But in general, scientists are not very concerned about that.

What’s the likelihood it will spread in the U.S.?

Not very, though the patient’s direct contacts must be screened. On Tuesday, director of the CDC Dr. Tom Friedensaid in a press conference: “The bottom-line here is I have no doubt that we will control this case of Ebola so that it does not spread widely.” The CDC has consistently said that given the quality of the U.S. health care system, it’s very unlikely that there will be significant spread of the disease on U.S. soil. Any hospital in the U.S. with an isolation unit—which is most of them—has the ability to isolate a person with Ebola as well as treat them with supportive care. Even though Ebola has no cure, monitoring patients’ heart rates and providing fluids and electrolytes can go a long way. For instance, if a patients’ potassium plummets, doctors and the U.S. can replenish it fairly easily. That’s a different situation from West Africa, where health care workers are dealing with a significant lack of resources and less sophisticated equipment.

But could there be more cases?

It’s certainly possible. This is not the first time Ebola has crossed borders via air travel. Nigeria’s outbreak started when a Liberian-American man infected with the disease traveled from Liberia to Nigeria. That same patient was en route to Minnesota. In a press conference on Tuesday, Dr. Frieden said: “As long as the outbreak continues in Africa, we need to be on-guard.” The CDC has been working for months with U.S. hospitals to make sure they feel prepared to handle any cases of Ebola by informing hospitals about the warning signs, as well as what kind of protective equipment they should wear.

Are the people on the plane at risk?

That’s highly unlikely. Ebola is only contagious when a person starts exhibiting symptoms of the disease, like a fever. And even then, a person can only contract the disease from direct contact with bodily fluids. The patient with Ebola in Dallas did not start exhibiting symptoms until four days after landing in the U.S., which means it’s extremely unlikely people on his plane are at any risk.

Why did the Dallas hospital originally send the patient home?

Though we don’t know the hospital’s reasoning, we do know that Ebola presents similarly in the beginning to other diseases, like malaria for instance. It’s possible the health care workers thought it was something else. After all, Ebola has never arrived in the U.S. before. The CDC said they are also unsure how the patient got infected. A health care worker traveling home from Liberia would likely set off more red flags. The CDC has still been prepping the U.S. health system for the possibility, which is why we’ve had so many false alarms.

Should I be freaking out?

The CDC and the Texas Department of Health are confident that Ebola will be contained in the U.S., and if the current patient’s health is similar to that of other infected people evacuated into the U.S., they have a better shot at survival. The disease’s high mortality rate in West Africa is largely due to the state of the health care systems in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, as well as overcrowding and lack of resources.

So what’s the bottom line?

The Ebola outbreak as a whole is terrifying, with over 3,000 dead and the worst yet to come, according to reliable predictions. The new case is a reminder that an infectious disease outbreak like Ebola truly is a global health emergency.

When New England plays the Kansas City Chiefs on “Monday Night Football,” Patriots linebackerDont’a Hightower will be wearing No. 54. Viewers need to know that if they want to keep up with the former Alabama standout, because he’s liable to line up anywhere in New England’s front seven on defense.

The Patriots and Chiefs wrap up Week 4 of the NFL season at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Arrowhead Stadium. ESPN will televise the game nationally.

“He’s played off the line, inside on the guard, on the tackle and played on the line on the tight ends, played down,” New England coach Bill Belichick said during his Wednesday press conference about Hightower’s roles with the Patriots defense. “Did that in college, did some sub rushing in college, played Sam. Then when (Rolando) McClain left, he moved inside and played Mike. So he’s a pretty versatile player.

“We saw him as a versatile player, and we’ve used him that. So I would say it’s not really a big surprise. I think the big thing for a player like Dont’a is his ability to play on third down – his ability to cover and rush the passer, which gives your defense a lot of flexibility. He’s a guy that you really want on the field on third down for the number of different things he can do. I wouldn’t say that’s always the case with linebackers like him – inside linebackers. But that’s what makes him a really good player. He’s good on all downs, but he gives you a lot of versatility and can also play on fourth down for us as well. We haven’t used him as much in that role because of his expanded role defensively, but he was a good fourth-down player for us his first year and even last year at times (on) punt team.”

The Patriots started the season with a 33-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins. The leading tackler for New England with 137 last season, Hightower had only one tackle in that game. New England rebounded to beat the Minnesota Vikings 30-7 and the Oakland Raiders 16-9, with Hightower totaling 15 tackles, two sacks, another tackle for loss, three quarterback hurries and a pass defensed.

New England defensive tackle Vince Wilfork said Hightower’s versatility makes it easier on all the Patriots’ defenders.

“It opens your playbook to anything,” Wilfork said. “It makes it so hard for an opponent to try and key and say, ‘Well, that guy, he’s not rushing’ or ‘He’s going to always be dropping’ or ‘He’s going to always be three-technique.’ It makes it hard for guys to identify what that guy is doing.”

While the opposition’s offense is trying to identify what “that guy” is doing, Hightower said his teammates are making plays.

“Whenever I’m doing that, the offense doesn’t know if I’m dropping or covering or rushing or what’s going on, and that opens up space for everybody else,” Hightower said after practice last week. “While they’re trying to zero in on what I’m doing, somebody else on the other side is getting a sack or a pick. They don’t really know what the coverage is or what’s going on. I feel like that helps me and has elevated my game a lot.”

FOR MORE OF AL.COM’S COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE OF THE NFL, GO TO OUR NFL PAGE

Last season, Hightower had to elevate his game in a hurry. Wilfork went down with a season-ending injury in the fourth game. Inside linebacker and defensive signal-caller Jerod Mayo followed in Game 6, shifting his responsibilities to Hightower with the two veteran defenders out.

“It forced me to step up a lot,” Hightower said. “I was put in a situation that I wasn’t used to. … I just feel like it helped me a lot. It helped me grow up a lot faster to realize more about being a leader.”

Now, Hightower is being put into all kinds of situations by the New England coaches.

“There’s more on my plate,” Hightower said. “Rushing the passer, dropping in coverage, playing man — I like being one of those guys.”

New England defensive end/linebacker Rob Ninkovich said Hightower, in his third season, is on his way up in the NFL.

“For him, there’s no top on his growth,” Ninkovich told reporters. “I think he can continue to just get better and better. For a guy who’s 270, he can cover, rush and stop the run. You don’t meet those guys every day.”

If you’re hankering for a cup of coffee, today’s one day you can get your coffee and drink it too — for free!

Need caffeine?

Today’s your day!

If you’re hankering for a cup of coffee, today’s one day you can get your coffee and drink it too — for free!

Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day, and several popular places will give your fix for free.

McDonald’s, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’ Donuts are among businesses in Phoenix and elsewhere celebrating National Coffee Day with a free mug of java.

Do they hope you’ll pay for an Egg McMuffin, Chocolate Frosted or Original Glazed while you’re sipping? Of course!

But do you have to? Apparently not!

“On Sept. 29, National Coffee Day, guests can walk into any participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant across the country and receive a free medium cup of Dunkin’ Donuts hot Dark Roast Coffee, with a limit of one per guest,” Dunkin’ Donuts proclaims in a press release.

“Coffee Isn’t Just A Drink. It’s A Feeling,” Krispy Kreme says. “Take your much needed coffee break on Monday… Get a FREE 12-ounce cup of coffee.

“Ahhh… enjoy the aroma of it all. You deserve it, you’ve earned it.Locate your coffee break retreat and you’ll be on your way to a treat brewed for you.”

McDonald’s has been handing out free cups of Joe for two weeks already — and today is the last day.

If you’re there in time, coffee lovers can get a free small McCafe during breakfast hours at participating McDonald’s restaurants in Phoenix and across the country.

It’s part of McDonald’s #Sipandtell social media campaign @mccafe, which urges coffee fanatics to describe their embarrassing “pre-coffee” moments.

Social media is abuzz with free coffee fans, see #Happy National Coffee Day.

Chick-Fil-A’s weeklong free coffee deal goes until Saturday. The chain hopes to promote its “farmer-direct” coffee, bought from farms in Central America.

But what about Starbucks? Apparently the King of Barista hill is giving away tastes of Anniversary Blend, but only until noon.

PITTSBURGH — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent nine long days aching for a shot to shake off embarrassment.

Given multiple chances at redemption thanks to the sloppy Pittsburgh Steelers, the Buccaneers didn’t let this one get away.

Mike Glennon hit a diving Vincent Jackson for a 5-yard touchdown with 7 seconds remaining to lift Tampa Bay to a stunning 27-24 win Sunday.

The Buccaneers (1-3) lost to Atlanta by six touchdowns more than a week ago but responded by rallying from seven points down in the fourth quarter to give Lovie Smith his first victory at his second head coaching stop.

“I was out last year, so it’s been a long time since I’ve tasted winning a game,” Smith said. “For our football team, we needed this.”

Did they ever. Only a pair of garbage time touchdowns against the Falcons prevented Tampa Bay from the worst loss in a franchise history littered with lopsided defeats.

The Buccaneers responded with relentless if not exactly crisp play on a day the two teams combined for 22 penalties.

Glennon passed for 302 yards in his first start of the season, including a 41-yard catch-and-run by Louis Murphy that set up Jackson’s score.

“We made so many mistakes out there, but we found a way to win,” Smith said. “That was a hurdle we needed to get over.”

Doug Martin ran for 40 yards and a touchdown in his return from injury. Murphy caught six passes for 99 yards, and rookie wide receiver Mike Evans hauled in the first touchdown of his career before leaving with a groin injury.

Tampa Bay’s defense struggled keeping the Steelers in check, though Pittsburgh did its best to stop itself by drawing 13 flags and letting a handful of chances to move to 3-1 for the first time since 2010 slip away.

Ben Roethlisberger passed for 314 yards and three touchdowns, but the Steelers (2-2) couldn’t protect a late lead.

Antonio Brown caught seven passes for 131 yards and two scores, and Heath Miller added a career-high nine receptions with a touchdown.

Pittsburgh rallied from an early 10-point deficit and appeared to be in complete control at times.

“We can’t go out and expect to beat an NFL team and beat ourselves as well,” defensive endBrett Keisel said.

Tampa Bay twice found itself down a touchdown in the second half. Both times the Buccaneers scrambled back.

A 3-yard touchdown run by Martin tied the game at 17 in the third quarter. After Roethlisberger found Miller for a 5-yard touchdown to put Pittsburgh back in front, Tampa Bay kept coming against a Steelers defense that struggled to get to the quarterback even with the addition of linebacker James Harrison.

The five-time Pro Bowler returned to Pittsburgh after an 18-day retirement to help an injury-depleted defense.

Patrick Murray kicked a 27-yard field goal to get the Buccaneers within 24-20. The Steelers tried to go for the knockout punch but couldn’t deliver. Roethlisberger found Brown behind the coverage on a flea flicker, but the pass glanced off the Pro Bowler’s fingertips.

Tampa Bay responded by driving to the Steelers 14 only to stall. Glennon overthrew Jackson in the back of the end zone on fourth down with 1:53 to go.

“It would have been tough to sleep tonight if we didn’t get another chance or win this game because those are throws that I need to make if we’re going to win games,” Glennon said.

Pittsburgh couldn’t muster a first down, giving the Buccaneers one last shot.

Taking over at the Steelers 46 after a 29-yard punt, Glennon hit Murphy in stride. He was finally pulled to the ground at the Pittsburgh 5. Jackson couldn’t haul in a pass on second down, but responded on the next play by stretching his 6-foot-5 frame to make the grab.

“I knew Mike was going to give me a chance for a ball on the outside,” Jackson said. “I went out there and competed for the ball.”

The Steelers were left wondering how they’ve become one of the league’s most undisciplined teams.

“We need to fix it,” Tomlin said. “And if we don’t we’ll continue to lose close football games.”
once-upon-a-time-recap-lead‘Once Upon A Time’ is back, and ready to stir up some magic (and trouble). The fourth season of the hit show premiered on Sept. 28 and featured a blast of ‘Frozen’ air!

The highly-anticipated fourth season of Once Upon A Time debuted on Sept. 28, and the drama in Storybrooke is more intense than ever. Elsa (Georgina Haig) made her chilly entrance, Frozen took over, Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and Emma (Jennifer Morrison) attempted to figure out their relationship and we realized Regina (Lana Parilla) may be returning to her old ways.

‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Sister Act

Our first look at season four found Elsa and Anna’s (Elizabeth Lail) parents on their ill-fated ship. Before the ship went down, Momma Frozen had to write a letter to her girls. She hoped the message in a bottle would one day fall in the hands of her daughters. Where’s Ariel when you need her?

“Anna and Elsa must know the truth,” their mother frantically said. “It’s the only thing that will save them.”

Once again, Emma managed to mess things up for Regina. When Emma got back from her time-traveling adventure, she brought Robin Hood’s (Tom Ellis) wife Miriam back with her. Regina had her happy ending with Robin, and now it was all ruined. Robin made things a million times worse when he introduced Regina to Miriam. Robin’s wife still envisioned Regina as the Evil Queen and couldn’t fathom the idea of Robin and Regina.

Miriam, go home. You’re lost.

Regina walked away from the crowd and Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) asked the million dollar question: “You don’t think she’ll become evil again?” We shall see, Henry.

‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Tale As Old As Time

Grumpy and Sleepy were heading home from a party when they came face-to-face with Elsa. Sleepy fell asleep at the wheel and Elsa used her powers to stop the car dead in its tracks.

Emma continued her icy stroll into Storybrooke. She spotted a wedding dress, which took her back to a moment with Anna. The young princess was anxiously awaiting what Elsa had planned, and it was better than she could ever imagine. Elsa presented Anna with their mother’s wedding dress.

While Anna tried on the dress, Elsa discussed Anna’s impending nuptials. Elsa did NOT want to walk down the aisle with Sven. (Um, why not?) and was worried about how Kristoff would be dressed. Yes, he was raised by trolls, but he knew what to wear to a wedding. Plus, he cut his hair. (WHAT?!)

However, the mood soured when Elsa found her mother’s diary and assumed her death was all her fault.

Gold finally visited Neal’s grave, and the scene was just heartbreaking. “I only like to her to avenge your death,” Gold said. He revealed that Belle didn’t have the real dagger. Gold also confessed that he wished he could be the man Belle wanted him to be. “Your heroism will show me the way,” Gold said.

Robin stopped by Regina’s and wanted to talk. This would go one of two ways. He apologized and admitted that his feelings for her were real, but he made a vow to Miriam and he must honor it.

Heart. Broken.

Regina was devastated, to say the least. She could feel herself unraveling. She broke a mirror and realized she needed a certain someone — Sidney aka Magic Mirror! Wasn’t going to give up and she needed someting (more like someone) taken care of.

Belle (Emilie de Ravin) and Gold (Robert Carlyle) have a new place! And things got super romantic very quickly. Belle and Gold were newlyweds, but they hadn’t yet had their first dance.

Cue that classic Beauty and the Beast scene we all know and love. Yellow ball gown and all!

Belle and Gold danced to “Tale as Old as Time.” (SLAY ME.)

‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Do You Wanna Build A Snowman?

Emma still hadn’t told Henry about Hook. She tried to tell Snow that there was no Captain Swan. (Seriously, Emma?) Hook knew Emma was avoiding him, but she sweared she was just dealing with “stuff.” Hook assured her there would always be a crisis, and they had to enjoy the quiet moments. Their moment didn’t last for long. Suddenly, Sleepy came screaming through the town saying they were under attack.

Back in Arendelle, Elsa tried to explain to Anna why she thought their parents really left. She believed they thought she was a monster. Anna wanted to prove to everyone that Elsa wasn’t what she thought, so they went to Anna’s future in-laws for help! Grand Pabbie didn’t know what their parents were doing, but knew where they were going — Misthaven.

Emma and Hook followed Elsa’s trail, spooking the Ice Queen. So naturally, she created MARSHMALLOW. Emma and Hook pissed him off and he started off after them. Marshmallow continued to crush everything in sight.

“It’s a snowman…run!” Grumpy said. That’s something I never thought I’d hear.

While Elsa hid from everyone, she found the paper with Gold’s wedding announcement. She seemed very interested.

‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Happy Endings

Regina knew exactly what she needed from Sidney (Giancarlo Esposito) — the exact moment she captured Miriam back in the day. She didn’t wanted Sidney to kill Miriam, just change the future. Regina planned to go back in time and undo Emma’s mistake. Her master plan was to kill Miriam before she could be saved.

The only way Sidney could help with all of this was to become the Magic Mirror again.

Poof. He’s back! As expected, he did her bidding. But how long is he going to be willing?

Meanwhile, Emma, Hook, Charming, Miriam and Robin ran into the woods to seek refuge from the big and mighty Marshamallow. The only thing they thought could save them was Emma’s magic. Unfortunately, that didn’t do the trick. Thankfully, Regina was there to save the day.

After their icy brush with death, Hook attempted to talk to Emma. HE JUST WANTS TO SPEND TIME WITH YOU EMMA. GEEZ.

“Right now, I just feel too guilty,” Emma said. She quickly kissed him and told him to be patient.

I can only wait so long, Emma.

Emma went to see Regina and explained that she wasn’t going to stop until she gave Regina a happy ending. This sparked new curiosity for Regina. Now, Regina wanted to change fate, but Sidney said that wasn’t possible. She explained that in the storybook, the villain never wins. She’s out to find the writer of the book and force him/her to give the villains a happy ending.

After Gold’s romantic dance with Belle, he went back to the object he’d had his eye on the second they arrived in their new home. He used his sword to unveil the Sorcerer’s Hat! Oh lord.

Back in the Arendelle days, Elsa headed to see Kristoff (Scott Michael Foster) after she couldn’t find Anna. She found him in the stables with Sven. Despite Kristoff’s attempts at lying, he confessed that Anna had booked passage on a ship to Misthaven. Elsa was baffled that Kristoff let Anna go alone, but Kristoff was needed in Arendelle. Anna didn’t want Elsa to be alone. (Aw, sisters!)

“She sometimes acts before she thinks,” Elsa told Kristoff. Yep, Anna did just that. Kristoff dropped the bomb on Elsa (and everyone else) that Misthaven was also known at the Enchanted Forest!

In the present day, Elsa broke into Gold’s shop and found something she recognized! It was the snowflake necklace Anna was wearing went she traveled to Misthaven!

HollywoodLifers, what did you think of the Once Upon A Time premiere? Did you like the addition of the Frozen characters? Where is Anna? Does Gold have something to do with her disappearance? Will Emma continue to push Hook away? Let us know your thoughts on the premiere in the comments below!

Chris Pratt was the guardian of “Saturday Night Live’s” season premiere, celebrating the show’s 40th anniversary.

“I’m so pumped to be here hosting the season premiere of ‘Saturday Night Live,’”he said during his opening monologue on Sept. 28.

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star talked about his 60 pound weight loss for the lead role in the film and detailed the, “Hey-fat-ass-get-into-shape-so-you-can-be-in-my-movie-diet,” he endured to get slim down.

Obviously it worked as he and the Marvel flick were a huge hit. In fact, it’s the highest grossing film this year, totaling $294.6 million six weeks after its release.

What better way to celebrate the film’s success than with an “SNL” skit about the undeniable triumph’s Marvel movies produce.

NBC/DANA EDELSON/NBCActor Chris Pratt rocks his opening monologue on September 27.

“Marvel took a super obscure comic book and turned it into the biggest film of the year,” the voiceover in the “Marvels Coming Attractions” skit began, “which means one thing, Marvel can’t fail!”

The skit highlights the upcoming films Marvel intends to release like “Ant-Man,” about a guy who talks to ants.

“We don’t even need comic books anymore,” the voiceover added. “We made a superhero team by pointing at a bunch of random words in the dictionary.”

The outcome? “Creatures of the Cosmos,” starring a pastry chef played by Pratt, a Harlem Globetrotter, an alien real estate signs dude, a dude dressed as Grimace, and an office chair.

Other Marvel pictures to come include the comic’s take on “Star Wars” with Pratt starring as Princess Leia.

Pop princess Ariana Grande also made an appearance on “SNL’s” season premiere Saturday.

“I know I’m not half the singer Ariana Grande is,” Pratt mentioned during his opening monologue. “But I’m technically three times her body weight.”

The 21-year-old performed “Break Free,” which she began with just piano accompaniment before picking up the tempo and incorporating some choreography.

“In the dressing room at #SNL hearing @ArianaGrande rehearse,” Pratt tweetedbefore the show. “Man. That girl can sing!!!! Like REALLY sing. You probably already knew that.”

“What a surreal moment,” Grande wrote after her performance.

NEW DELHI: Pakistan plans to split ailing national flag carrier PIA into two companies and sell control of the core business to a global airline over the next 18 months, but political opposition to the sell-off will be intense, the country´s privatisation czar said.

Financial advisers are now in talks with several airlines about taking over cash-strapped Pakistan International Airlines, which has some 17,000 employees but just 36 aircraft – and 10 of them are grounded due to a lack of spare parts.

Mohammad Zubair told Reuters in an interview during a visit to New Delhi on Wednesday that no decision had been taken on the buyer, but he mentioned Emirates Airline, Etihad and Qatar Airways – the Gulf giants that dominate the regional sector – as possibilities.

“It’s going to be the most difficult sale,” said Zubair, who is aiming to raise around $4 billion this fiscal year from the sale of stakes in several companies, anticipating demands that the government hold onto PIA and nurse it back to health itself.

“If we are saying that for 25 years PIA has been going from bad to worse, we can´t claim that we are business-savvy and we can turn it around,” he said.

“Anyone who thinks that the government can fund it is living in a fool´s paradise.” Zubair, a former IBM chief financial officer for the Middle East and Africa, was tapped by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take charge of a central plank of economic reforms promised by Islamabad in return for an International Monetary Fund bailout. Pakistan announced this week it will seek to raise about $815 million through a sale of shares in Oil & Gas Development Co (OGDC), its largest offering in eight years.

Zubair said investors are returning to Pakistan after weeks of anti-government protests in Islamabad that have now fizzled out, and the OGDC deal representing 7.5 percent of the company´s share capital would be a test of their confidence.

The OGDC sale is part of a sell-off drive to raise capital for an economy that has been crippled for years by power shortages, corruption and militant violence, and to staunch huge losses from dysfunctional companies. Zubair said the losses of power distribution companies alone are equivalent to one-sixth of the government´s fiscal revenues. Next on the block will be the government´s 40 percent stake in Habib Bank Ltd, which will be sold in two stages between November and next March, for around $1.2 billion.

Also ahead is the sale, targeted at domestic investors, of the state´s 7.5 percent stake in Allied Bank Ltd, for around $150 million, Zubair said.

Once a source of pride for the country, PIA´s decay has made it the butt of jokes, one of which goes that its initials actually stand for ´Perhaps I´ll Arrive´.

Flights are regularly cancelled and engineers say they have to cannibalise some planes to keep others flying. Last year a PIA pilot was jailed in the United Kingdom for being three times over the alcohol limit before he was due to fly.

Pakistani media reported that another pilot delayed a New York-bound flight for more than two hours as he waited for a sandwich delivery.

Over the years, critics say, governments have manipulated state corporations like PIA for political and financial gain, giving jobs to so many supporters that the size of the workforce has become unsustainable in the face of mounting losses.

Zubair said that PIA´s employee-to-aircraft ratio, at around 600, is one of the worst in the world and keeps going up as more planes are grounded.

Under his plan, the airline will be spun off as a separate entity and PIA´s other interests – such as ground-handling, catering, hotels and even a poultry business – would go into a holding company that would be retained by the state.

To avoid mass layoffs that would run into political opposition the holding company would absorb all the employees, keep a share in the airline to earn dividend income and then sell off each of its interests individually over time. Zubair said he could not proceed with the sale of PIA as quickly as other companies, partly because parliament may have to approve legislation allowing it to pass into private hands.”It´s more politically sensitive,” he said. “PIA is not going to be sold just like that.”

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan and India had two exploratory meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Thursday but discussed issues which did not focus on bilateral relations.

Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and Pakistan’s National Security and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz came face to face at the Saarc and Commonwealth foreign ministers’ meetings, raising hopes that the two seasoned politicians could use these opportunities for reducing tensions between their nations.

They met as planned, and also had “a brief chit-chat” at the Commonwealth meeting, but did not hold formal talks. Diplomatic observers at the United Nations, however, see even this minor gesture as “a step in the right direction”, as one of them said.

Know more: No plans for Nawaz-Modi meeting in New York: FO

Foreign ministers from Saarc and Commonwealth nations meet every year on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss a mutually agreed agenda. This year’s agenda included Commonwealth reforms, the post-2015 development goals and improving cooperation within South Asia.

Both Ms Swaraj and Mr Aziz focused on the agenda in their speeches and did meet each other briefly but only to exchange formal greetings.

Speculations about a separate meeting between the two ministers got a boost earlier this week when India’s permanent representative to the UN Asoke Mukerji told the Indian news agency (PTI) that they might “meet” each other at one of these fora.

“There is a meeting of Saarc Foreign Ministers which is scheduled and I am sure our External Affairs Minister will meet” Aziz in the meeting, Mr Mukerji said in response to a question about the possibility of a meeting between them.

Mr Mukerji said the “second opportunity” for the two leaders to meet would be the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

“India and Pakistan are both members of the Commonwealth. So the two ministers will be meeting in that format as well,” he said. Ms Swaraj last met Mr Aziz on Sept 12 at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Dushanbe but like New York, they only exchanged pleasantries during a break.

The UN General Assembly created another opportunity for India-Pakistan talks as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi are both attending the session. But officials on both sides have said that there will be no meeting between the two leaders, which led observers to speculate that Ms Swaraj and Mr Aziz could do the talking on their behalf.

India and Pakistan have been involved in a war of words after New Delhi cancelled a Foreign Secretary-level meeting last month after Pakistan’s envoy in India met Kashmiri leaders ahead of the talks.

The Indians say that the resumption of talks depends on Pakistan’s policy towards Kashmir. Indian think-tank experts and former diplomats close to the ruling BJP say that if Mr Sharif raised the Kashmir issue in his address to the General Assembly on Friday, India will show no desire to resume the talks.

They argue that by omitting Kashmir from his speech, Mr Sharif can not only reduce tensions but can also raise the possibility of a meeting with Mr Modi, perhaps even during this UN General Assembly.

The Pakistanis, however, argue that Mr Sharif will commit a political suicide if he did so.

President Barack Obama announced the resignation of Attorney General-Eric Holder on Thursday.

Holder will leave the Justice Department after nearly six years of leadership, and he has agreed to remain in his post until the confirmation of his successor, Obama said.

“Over the summer Eric came to me and said he thought six years was a pretty good run,” Obama said, adding that he likedHolder for the job because the outgoing attorney general thinks “justice is not just an abstract theory, it’s a living an breathing principle.”

President Barack Obama stands with Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. who announced his resignation today, September 25, 2014 in Washington.

The first African American to hold the attorney general position, Holder is one of the last few officials who have stayed in their posts since the beginning of Obama’s presidency. He is the fourth-longest serving attorney general in U.S. history.

Obama highlighted some of Holder’s achievements during his tenure, including overseeing hundreds of terror cases, the largest mafia take down in American history, and helping to “safeguard our markets from manipulation and consumers from financial fraud.”

“We could not be more grateful for everything you’ve done,” Obama said to Holder at the press conference announcing the resignation.

For his part, Holder thanked the president, saying “we have been great colleagues, but the bonds between us are much deeper than that—you have been there for me.”

Last week, Holder said in a speech that he promised to bring charges against individuals on Wall Street with evidence of criminal conduct, especially relating to the financial crisis.

Congressional Republicans have wanted to dismiss Holder for his involvement with the Fast and Furious gun operation, the IRS targeting scandal, and other high-profile controversies.

A New York City native, Holder became deputy attorney general in 1997 under the Clinton administration, and was U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. He was also nominated by former President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to be an associate judge of the superior court of the District of Columbia.

Introducing Jason Aldean and his future wife, Brittany Kerr!

E! News confirms the duo is officially engaged after the country crooner popped the question during the West Coast leg of his current tour Burn It Down tour.

Aldean recently opened up about his controversial relationship to Billboard magazine, saying, “It has been two years of this s–t—get over it, already!”

Despite the drama surrounding his highly publicized affair, and subsequent split from his wife Jessica Ussery, Aldean admitted that it’s been difficult handling all the talk about his personal life.

NEWS: 5 things to know about Jason’s bride-to-be Brittany

“When I finally go get enough of it and say something, every newspaper grabs it. And I’m not trying to get in the headlines—I’m just trying to get people to stop running their mouths.”

Aldean and Kerr were first linked after they were caught kissing in a bar in September 2012.

Shortly after photos of them emerged, the then-married singer apologized for his behavior on Facebook, admitting that he had “screwed up” and “had too much to drink” that evening.

His apology continued, “I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself. I’m not perfect, and I’m sorry for disappointing you guys. I really appreciate being able to work through this privately with my family and for all your continued support.”

The next month, he spoke to E! News and shared that he was “workin’ through” his marital issues.

NEWS: Jason talks about his “unfortunate” situation

At the time he said that he and Ussery were trying to move past their “unfortunate” situation, adding, “We’re tryin’ to move on, that’s the biggest thing. And, hopefully, people will allow us the privacy to do that—and that’s kinda it.”

But less than a year later, the high school sweethearts—who have two children together—called it quits.

Aldean and Kerr made their official red carpet debut at the 2014 CMT Awards in Nashville earlier this year.

BIG Brother has called a snap eviction and will also send an intruder into the house next week.

THE Nine Network has announced details of the eviction to everyone except the 15 remaining housemates.

Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, where fans pay as much $50 to attend the live evictions at an amphitheatre at the theme park, had flagged the eviction on its website.

MORE: Fans fire up over ‘bully’ Big Brother

Dreamworld sells tickets to the live shows and it has been advertising a “Surprise Eviction” on Monday and an “Intruder Special” on Wednesday.

Nine says one of the five housemates — Katie, Cate, Dion, Travis and Priya — being up for Tuesday’s eviction will actually leave on Monday.

Another of the five potential evictees will leave Tuesday.

Big Brother’s live shows are extremely well attended but the same cannot be said for its Brisbane ratings, once a stronghold for the network, which have halved.

Big Brother was a Brisbane ratings winner for Nine in 2013 and it was regularly among the top three shows each night.

However, its Brisbane overnight OzTAM’s ratings have halved, which highlights the problems facing the Nine series.

The new season is in its third week and it’s drawing audience numbers in the vicinity of 130,000 in Brisbane.

In the third week of the 2013 series, Big Brother’s Brisbane audience was around the 250,000 range.

The series could be suffering in the ratings because it’s being screened in a later timeslot and the show is running for 90 minutes and finishing past 10pm.

There’s also been some backlash on social media and Big Brother fans sites about the casting and the number of, and type of, stunts on the show.

Big Brother only screened in Sydney and Brisbane on Thursday night and was praised on the Behind Big Brother website for being the best episode yet this series.

However, the audience numbers for Sydney and Brisbane were down 22,000 and 10,000 on last Thursday’s corresponding show.
Scandal_Still

We’re looking to you, loyal Gladiators, to help determine season four’s Most Scandalous Scandal character with our new index.

Here’s how it works: Each week, we’ll select the most jaw-dropping, head-scratching, What the Huck-type moments from the episode and put the vote to you with a weekly poll. We’ll close the poll before every new episode of Scandal and track the “winners” all season long. Then, at the end of the season, we’ll crown someone the King (or Queen) of Scandal and interview the winner using your questions from Twitter (and some of our own). Sound good? Great! Now let’s get under way with the season four premiere, titled “Randy, Red, Superfreak and Julia.”

Photos The Couples of Shondaland: ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Private Practice,’ ‘Scandal’

[Warning: Spoilers ahead!]

Olivia: Sex on the beach off the coast of Zanzibar with Jake — as new identity Julia Baker! She has no desire to return to gladiating and lashes out at Abby for abandoning Quinn and Huck. She did the same, no?

Fitz: The new Fitz 2.0 is buried in his work — and apparently contemplated suicide after the loss of his son. A secret Mellie vows to put in the bank — along with everything else. More: He vows not to see Olivia, but Mellie just knows better and asks that he at least be honest when he does.

Mellie: Gone are the gowns, makeup and waxing; in are sweatpants, booze and carefree snarky comments. Grieving Mellie is snarrrrrky! When Fitz goes to visit his son, he finds the first lady lying on his gravesite. Heart. Broken. Bonus: “It’s 1976 down there!”

Abby: She’s the new White House press secretary — and is just so done with OPA. She lashes out at her former boss for giving up on everyone, including the late Harrison.

Photos: On-Set With the Gladiators: Inside the Fast-Paced World of ABC’s ‘Scandal’

Quinn: She’s learned from the best and helped bring Olivia back to D.C. for Harrison’s funeral, which brings all the Gladiators back together for an emotional service in which Olivia reveals that Harrison grew up in a group home and had no family other than OPA.

Huck: He’s working at a computer repair shop under the name Randy and only wants to entertain Olivia if she’s back for good. More: He won’t respond to any questions for “Huck” and reveals that Randy has no hope. He tells Olivia not to come back unless she’s back for good. It’s a dagger right to Liv’s heart. But it all works out in the end, and OPA winds up getting back together.

Cyrus: Portia de Rossi is Liz, the new head of the RNC, and Cyrus is not a fan. He suggests she hit the road on her “broomstick.” Liz is fierce but doesn’t seem to be a match for Cyrus. And we love when Cyrus gets punchy.

David: Cyrus pulls him away from his B613 recon and accepts the president’s nomination to be the next attorney general of the U.S. Turns out it was his obsession over the files that led to his split with Abby. The plot thickens!

Photos: Nudity, Slapping, Pranks! ‘Scandal’ Cast Share Their Most Scandalous Moments

Jake: Back from standing in the sun, he demands David pull the trigger on the B613 files — or give them back so he can get the job done. Then, when Olivia interrupts their sex time, he fights for her: “I’m the one you like to ride … I’m the one who makes you moan.” Steamy!

Other: The wildcard this week is Rowan (Joe Morton), who straight up lies to Olivia that he had nothing to do with Harrison’s death. He does so again when he tells her that he killed her mother, under Fitz’s orders. Bonus: Olivia also learns from her dear old dad that her mother is the one who was responsible for killing the president’s eldest son.

Who was the most scandalous this week? Vote below in our poll and help us crown a King (or Queen) of Scandal.
MLB: Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees

After spending the last 20 years in pinstripes, Yankees captain Derek Jeter played his final home game in Yankee Stadium on Thursday night. Buck Showalter, Jeter’s first big league manager, was in the other dugout managing the Orioles (NYY 6, BAL 5).

We followed the night here with this live blog. Photos, videos, links, game updates … basically anything worth passing along can be found right here, so make sure you scroll through for all the important stuff. There was a lot of it (all time stamps are ET).

Update, 10:41pm:

Video of Jeter’s storybook walk-off hit is right here. Baseball can be truly amazing sometimes.

Update, 10:20pm:

You can’t make this stuff up. After a Jose Pirela and a Gardner sac bunt, Jeter laced a walk-off single to the right side to give the Yankees a 6-5 win. Unreal.

Update, 10:11pm:

Well, Jeter will get another at-bat. Adam Jones (two-run) and Steve Pearce (solo) hit home runs off David Robertson in the top of the ninth to tie the game at five.

Update, 9:51pm:

As promised, here is Jeter driving in the go-ahead runs in the seventh inning (with an assist to Hardy):

Update, 9:48pm:

Jeter was fighting back tears at shortstop as fans had dueling “Der-Ek Je-Ter!” and “Thank You Der-Ek!” chants going in the eighth inning.

Update, 9:32pm:

Drama! In his fourth at-bat of the night, Jeter drove in the go-ahead runs with an assist to some terrible Orioles defense. The bases were loaded with one out, Jeter hit a weak grounder to shortstop, and J.J. Hardy threw the ball into right field trying to get the out at second base. Two runs score and the Yankees took a 4-2 lead in the seventh.

That might have been the final Yankee Stadium at-bat of Jeter’s career. Video will be posted as soon as it’s available.

Update, 9:20pm:

As expected, lots and lots (and lots) of people came out to see Jeter’s final home game.

Update, 8:47pm:

In his third at-bat, Jeter struck out for the second out of the fifth inning. Gausman got him swinging at an inside fastball. The score is still tied at two through five innings.

Update, 8:43pm:

Jeter is not the most skilled defender at this point of his career, but he did make a real nice play going to his left to start a double play in the third inning:

Update, 8:24pm:

The Yankees are using commemorative bases in honor of Jeter’s final home game:

Update, 7:58pm:

Jeter’s second at-bat was a little less dramatic. He grounded out to short for an inning-ending fielder’s choice in the bottom of the second.

Update, 7:52pm:

Here is Jeter’s first inning at-bat and double. Like I said, he juuust missed a home run:

Yankee Stadium has been electric so far, as you can tell from the video.

Update, 7:48pm:

Here is Jeter taking the Yankee Stadium field in the first inning for the final time:

The game is still tied at two.

Update, 7:46pm:

Jeter was charged with an error in the top of the second. He charged a ground ball and pulled Mark Teixeira off the bag at first base with the throw. No love from the official scorer!

Update, 7:41pm:

It’s a big night in New York, so you can bet the stars are coming out. Jay-Z is at the game:

As is Mets right-hander Matt Harvey:

The Mets are currently playing the Nationals in Washington, by the way. Harvey is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.

Update, 7:37pm:

Here’s a neat video of fans in New York saying farewell to Jeter:

Update, 7:25pm:

In his first at-bat of the night, Jeter doubled in a run against Kevin Gausman. It was almost a home run too. Banged off the top of the wall in left-center field to score Brett Gardner from first. Jeter later advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Brian McCann’s ground ball to second.

The game is currently tied at two. Nick Markakis and Alejandro De Aza hit back-to-back solo homers for the Orioles in the first inning.

Update, 6:58pm:

Rain? Of course it stopped raining. Not only did it stop raining, but now there’s a rainbow over Yankee Stadium:

Of course.

Update, 6:45pm:

I’m not kidding when I say just about everyone is congratulating Jeter on Thursday:

Touching tribute, Charmin.

Update, 6:43pm:

It’s no secret opposing players love and respect Jeter:

Update, 6:14pm:

The tarp is being removed from the field and the Yankees announced the game is scheduled to begin on time at 7:05pm. How about that? The baseball weather gods did Jeter and the Yankees a solid.

Update, 5:50pm:

Just in case you were worried, yes, Jeter is in Thursday’s lineup. He is playing shortstop and batting second, just as he has for most of the last 20 years:

Update, 5:43pm:

First things first: the weather in the Bronx is not great. It has been raining outside my New York-based window all day but it has cleared up within the last hour or so. The current local forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of rain at 8pm before it drops down to 40 percent at 11pm.

As always, MLB plans to do whatever they can to get the game in:

Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters, including Chad Jennings of the Journal News, “I would suggest you make some plans, because I think we’re going to be here a while.”

If postponed, the game won’t be made up unless it could impact postseason positioning. The Yankees have already been eliminated, so the only way a potential makeup game could mean something is if the AL East winning Orioles have a chance to claim the best record in the AL.
