5410e16f043f6KARACHI: Pakistan-2 team made history at the fourth Commonwealth Nations Bridge Championship being staged in Glasgow by winning all their six matches in a row, according to the information received by the Pakistan Bridge Federation (PBF) here on Wednesday.

Led by Ahsan Zahir Rizvi, Pakistan-2 excelled and dominated with superb tactical and smart play.

After beating Guernsey 12.71 and Kenya 16.03 on the openingday, Pakistan-2 maintained their sequence by thrashing Northern Ireland 10.56, Jersey 20.00, Black Swan 17.63 and England-2 15.26.

At the close of the sixth round, Pakistan-2 were leading the bunch of 14 competitors, followed by India and Australia. India were leading this group until the fifth round.

As per PBF record, it would be for the first time in the history of Pakistan bridge that national team won six straight matches at any international event.

With six wins Pakistan-2 have brightened their chances to qualify for the knockout stage.

Ahsan Rizvi and his bunch of players including Anwar Kizilbash, Abdul Muqeet and Ziaullah Baig have performed fantastically.

Two members of the team could not go to Glasgow since they could not get visa from the UK so only four players are playing continuously.

However, the position is not so pleasing in group ‘A’, where Pakistan-1 have won only two out of their six matches.

Their results were Pakistan-1 vs Canada 00.00, Scotland 7.56, Australian women 13.48, Malaysia 3.97, Barbados 12.44 and England 1.96.

At the close of the sixth round Pakistan-1 were placed at the 11th position among 14 competitors.

Playing Women's World Cup on turf not discrimination: CSA

The head of the Canadian Soccer Association is frustrated over suggestions that players are being discriminated against because next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup games are being played on artificial turf. A group of 40 women’s soccer players have threatened a lawsuit because artificial turf will be used at the stadiums. They argue female athletes are being discriminated against because the men’s World Cup is played on natural grass. Canada is scheduled to host the World Cup in 2015 at six sites across the country, with the final scheduled to be played at Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium. CSA president Victor Montagliani said it is up to FIFA, soccer’s world governing body, to comment on the issue of turf, but he said any talk of gender discrimination in the sport in Canada is incorrect. Montagliani says the CSA spends a little over $4 million a year on the women’s program. That’s about twice the amount spent on the men’s program.
